As an emergency nurse, I have cared for men, women, and children who accidentally or intentionally overdosed on one of the world's most dangerous drug.
Every year, over 100,000 Americans die from or are hospitalized from this potent drug.
It is recommended that adults take no more than 4000 milligrams a day or eight extra-strength pills. Just a doubling of the maximum daily dose can be enough to kill you, warns- Dr. Anne Larsen of the University of Washington.
This drug is called Acetaminophen. You might be more familiar with its brand name, Tylenol, or the intravenous form called Ofirmev given regularly in hospitals.
When taken correctly, Tylenol is safe. However, few people are unaware of the massive damage it can cause when taken even slightly above its recommended dosage.
That is why Tylenol is the most common cause of acute liver failure in the United States according to www.mayoclinic.org
With so many Americans misusing this drug, why does the FDA allow Big Pharma giant Johnson and Johnson to sell Tylenol with exemption from punishment?
Back in November of 2019, the FDA came out with a scathing consumer report stating CBD causes liver damage and gastrointestinal problems. The FDA issued a warning stating hemp-derived from CBD without the supervision of a doctor could result in liver damage, gastrointestinal issues, and other health problems associated with its use (www.cannalwablog.com/the-fda-issues-hemp-cbd-warning-letters-and-a-consumer-update).
It appears the FDA drew its conclusion from a highly flawed study from the Journal of Molecules, called "Hepatoxicity of a Cannabidiol-Rich Cannabis Extract in the Mouse Model." Involving mice who consumed large amounts of CBD.
In the study, researchers gave mice 246-2,460 mg of their own home-made CBD extract, which contained residual amounts of hexane, a known hepatotoxin. That is about 10 to 100 times more than the highest daily CBD dosage studied to date.
These studies found the dosing level-in combination with other drugs given to the mice caused liver damage and not pure CBD.
Ask yourself why would the FDA publish such a report to scare consumers away from using CBD and pat the backs of big pharmaceutical giants like Johnson and Johnson.
The fact is that several reputable studies have shown there are great benefits in using CBD. People like me know how it helps with chronic pain and other ailments better than Acetaminophen and Ibuprofen.
Last year, the World Health Organization (WHO) issued a report on CBD, stating there are no public health risks or potential for abuse from CBD when it is used in its purest form (www.cannalwablog.com/the-fda-issues-hemp-cbd-warning-letters-and-a-consumer-update).
The bottom-line CBD is here to stay, and its high-time the FDA get fully onboard with the insurmountable amount of evidence-based research that shows the wonderful benefits of this plant.
